What’s in a name

Curious about Cosy Meerkat?

Cosy Meerkat is quite a strange name, I know. I’d looked at all sorts of names before settling on this one – Kate Shanks Consulting, Kate Shanks Comms, CommuniKate (can you believe it – that’s taken too???!!). You think of a name, then check it out on companies house and Google, then find it’s already taken in some form or other. It’s pretty hard to find a unique name these days.

Cosy Meerkat came from multiple discussions with my husband. He’s worked across a number of businesses in the past, from Unilever to Evitavonni (now there’s a name..Innovative backwards) and now runs a franchise called Right at Home (can’t beat that for a Care at Home business). He has a marketing background and I value his thoughts and opinions.

To find a name, we thought about animals….what animals are team players? Which ones look out for one another and care deeply about each other’s well being? What animal is interested in what another of the same species is doing and learns from that? Can you believe that it’s a meerkat of all things?

The Cosy part comes from thinking what word makes you feel safe, looked after, warm and comfortable, able to be yourself and feel happy in what you’re doing. Cosy came up trumps and we felt the two went well together.

From the research I’ve done, it seems it’s a little like Marmite – people either love it or hate it. The thing that really matters to me is that it’s memorable and that it keeps a very good reputation for doing great work in the world of internal communications.

So Cosy Meerkat it is…. love it or hate it. It’s here to stay!
