For goodness sake, be happy.
When we found out that this week was International Week of Happiness at Work we knew we had to write about it. We spend a lot of time at work. You all know the stats, don’t you? A whole third of an average lifetime is spent working, and that’s not including overtime, or the amount of hours a daily commute clocks up (or did, pre-covid).
Our work is about making people feel valued, listened to, treated well, and ultimately happy and thriving at work. It’s what we do at Cosy Meerkat. And it’s what we enjoy. What International Happiness at Work week aims to do is make sure that ‘happy employees’ is the norm, not the exception. And we couldn’t be more behind that. It’s about making happiness at work a priority. Because when people are happy, they’re more productive, they’re more creative and they’re more involved in the success of your business. This stuff isn’t new, comms professionals across the land have been saying it over and over again for years and years, yet it’s still a key problem that organisations struggle with in 2021.
What do you do to stay happy at work? To make sure your employees are content?
At Cosy Meerkat, we love to walk. Walking helps feed our brains with oxygen, it means we get vitamin D, and it keeps our concentration levels higher. We love getting out and being creative about brainstorms, holding meetings on the move - walking for a few hours a week. That’s our vibe and it keeps us happy. But that’s just one little thing that we do to help us stay engaged at work. We are mostly happy because we love what we do. It has meaning and purpose, and we’re committed to our cause: engaged employees at work.
So, we’re using this week to encourage you to take a step back and have a think about the work you do. Have a think about what you’re happy with and what you’re not happy with. Chat to a manager, talk to a colleague, talk to us if you need some comms support. Be brave and speak up if you’re not content. The world is constantly changing. Covid has disrupted many of our ‘normal’ ways of working, flexible working looks to be firmly on Whitehall’s table and businesses need to be proactive in their approach to workplace happiness.
It’s the perfect time to make a change, or be part of one. Happiness at work is a must. Life is too short not to love what you do. Be bold. Be brave. And for goodness sake be happy at work.
